Two beluga whales released after ten years of captivity

Published

on

CNN

Sine 2011, beluga whales “Little Grey” and “Little White” have been held in the Shanghai (Shedd) aquarium.  The two performed as show animals for nearly a decade, keeping them captive from their natural habitat.

USA TODAY, LANA GONZALEZ

The SEA LIFE Trust foundation first got involved with Little Grey and Little White in 2019. The whale duo was first transported from the aquarium to a care facility in order to prep for ocean water. During their time spent in the facility the belugas were introduced to natural sea life plants such as flora and fauna.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be able to share the news that Little Grey and Little White are safely in their sea sanctuary care pools and are just one step away from being released into their wider open water home”

Andy Bool, Head of SEA LIFE Trust.
USA TODAY, AARON CHOWN

“Over 300 belugas are currently held in captivity worldwide. Belugas live up to 60 years in the open ocean, but often 30 or less under ownership.”

THE WHALE AND DOLPHIN CONSERVATION

In mid-August, Little Grey and Little White were brought to the world’s first open-water whale sanctuary located in Klettsvik Bay, Iceland. They are both 12-years-old and are estimated to live well into their 40’s based off these new conditions.

The Picassos Of Raccoons: Meet Piper, Tito, and Cheeto

Ever see a raccoon make art? If the answer is “no”, today is your lucky day!

It all started with a young man named Mitchell. In 2017, Mitchell worked for a pest control company. One day on the job, a man was complaining about baby raccoons running around his attic. This particular pest control company didn’t deal with animals of that nature, so Mitchell took the raccoons back to the warehouse.

After releasing a few coons into the wild, Mitchell decided to take one of the furry creatures home.

Everybody, meet Tito.

Although Tito was living his best life, Mitchell felt like his pet needed a friend.

Meet Cheeto

Unfortunately in January 2020, Tito ran away from Mitchell’s home. This was heartbreaking news, for Tito could never be replaced.

As time went on, Mitchell missed having a second pet around. Finally, he decided to adopt the one and only Piper.

Piper is not only incredibly adorable – she is a VERY talented painter. Cheeto began to feel left out and decided to join the “Raccoon Painter” club.

It didn’t take long for social media to notice these amazing creatures. Due to the positive feedback, Mitchell started selling these unique paintings to followers.

Customers can purchase a “Tiny Masterpiece” or “Custom Masterpiece” for $75-$150.
